Pastor Glenn Sawyer
Pastor & Founder of Mt. Zion COGIC Camden & Hertford, NC
Elder Glenn Sawyer is the son of Connie Sawyer, Sr. and Shirley Sawyer. He comes from a family of 9 children and is the oldest son. He is married to “The Fragrance of Zion”, First Lady Sandra Sawyer. He has one son (one daughter- in-law) and two daughters (two son-in-laws). Pastor Sawyer also has three grandsons and three granddaughters.
In 1985, Pastor Sawyer established his own business, Sawyer’s Home Improvement. Throughout the Albemarle area, and parts of Virginia, many homes, churches and other buildings can be seen as a result of his work. During the 18 years his business was in operation, he and his business was well respected and complimentary for its work of excellency.
Elder Glenn Sawyer was a faithful and dedicated member of the Eastern Star Church of God In Christ in Elizabeth City, North Carolina for over 25 years. A man of few words and a quiet, humble manner, he was devoted to his pastor, the late Elder Cornelius Purkett. It was under this great leader that he was appointed Chairman of the Deacons Board, coordinator of the Men’s Work, Bass Guitarist, and a father to many sons of the church. He continued in like manner under Elder Jerry Whidbee and was an associate minister of Eastern Star COGIC.
It was at the “Star” that he heard the “Call” of God to Pastor. It was an unction that he had rejected several times before. He began realizing that his successes in life would take place only after his obedience to God. Yet, the young preacher would not come to the forefront and acknowledge his call. God held the destiny of this preacher in His hand. His business began suffering loss, and after falling from the roof twice, he realized he was fighting a losing battle and said YES, LORD!
After answering the call, it was evident that the favor of God was and is upon this man. On March 31, 1999, Pastor Sawyer was installed as the founder and Pastor of the Mount Zion Church of God in Christ in Camden, North Carolina. On April 21, 2015, he was installed as Pastor of the New Mount Zion Church of God in Christ Deliverance Center in Hertford, North Carolina.
Pastor Sawyer is a member of Bishop Woolard’s Administrative Cabinet, serves as Chairman of the Pastors and Elders Council of the Greater North Carolina Jurisdiction; a member of the licensing screening committee, as well as the secretary of the ordination board. He also serves as chairman of the Alliance of Pastors for the Greater Windsor District. Last, but not least, he serves in the community as a member of the Ministers Council for Education in Perquimans County and on the board of Foundation for Hope.
Pastor Sawyer is highly respected by the Pastors whom he works with and he has the utmost respect from and for his Bishop. None of his positions and accomplishments have moved him from being the humble man of God, with character and integrity.
Pastor Sawyer has declared from the beginning days of his ministry that his calling is greater than his affliction. He is as motivated today as when he began this great work.
The Fragrance of Zion
First Lady Sandra Sawyer
The name Fragrance of Zion now flows amongst the entire household of faith. The saints embrace the name because First Lady Sandra Sawyer wears the title well, as she gives of herself to the ministry, displaying an unconditional love to the Zionites and those who visit us. She indeed gives a sweet, pleasing aroma that supports her title as the “Fragrance of Zion”!
As President of the Women’s Department, she seeks to lead with dignity and kindness. Her desire is that the women will be a blessing to the work at Mt. Zion and the Kingdom of God. She also serves as President of the Missions Department and she is an awesome woman of hospitality.
First Lady Sawyer loves the Lord and often speaks to friends concerning her persuasion to make it to heaven. She is a devoted mother of two daughters and a loving “Gran-Gran” as she’s called by her grand children.
Above all, she cherishes the position she holds as the wife of Pastor Sawyer. Her love for him is evident as she gives much care and has great concern for the Man of God!
